Disneyland Delights the Whole Family … But There’s So Much More to Love About Anaheim

Before 1955, Anaheim was primarily known as an agricultural town founded by German immigrants, exporting a combination of walnuts and citrus. Then, in 1955, Disneyland opened. Everything for this once-humble town changed as Disneyland became one of the top tourist destinations in the world.

Through the 1950s and ‘60s, Anaheim’s population and business opportunities expanded at a breakneck pace. Today, it’s the largest city in Orange County and the 10th most populous in the state. Anaheim is home to more than 24,000 businesses and enjoys a healthy tourism economy with millions of visitors per year. Although the Walt Disney Company is the city’s largest employer, several notable companies also have corporate offices or are headquartered in Anaheim, including the AT&T, Panasonic and the Kaiser Foundation.

Families appreciate Anaheim’s welcoming atmosphere and relatively low crime rate. The city is served by seven public school districts and individuals may also pursue higher education at the private Anaheim University, the Southern California Institute of Technology and Bristol University, in addition to community colleges.

Anaheim is a premium and in-demand city to do business, raise a family and explore everything Southern California offers.

What to Do in Anaheim, CA

Anaheim is one of the most popular destinations in Southern California for its unbeatable attractions and laid-back charm. Of course, there’s Disneyland with more than 16 million visitors every year, but you shouldn’t miss the plenty of other attractions that make this city a big draw.

For one, Anaheim’s downtown district, locally known as CtrCity, is the place to be whether it’s a weekday afternoon or Saturday night. This walkable promenade feels like a charming village with string lights, wide sidewalks, hidden gems and local restaurants buzzing with energy. It’s fit for date night or an afternoon of window shopping. Swing by Okayama Kobo Bakery and Café for fluffy Japanese pastries and a strong espresso or sip a glass of California-made wine in Cultivation Kitchen’s gorgeous greenhouse-style dining room. Foodies also flock to the Anaheim Packing District, a Sunkist citrus packing house turned hip food hall and shopping center.

Anaheim has a fascinating history and you can learn more about it at the Founder’s Park, where you can tour two historic homes: the 1857 Mother Colony House and the Woelke-Stoffel House, built in 1894. The park offers insight into what life in Anaheim might have been like pre-Disneyland, when the region was renowned for its walnut, chili pepper, lima beans, strawberry and citrus exports. For another educational excursion, the Muzeo Museum in downtown Anaheim offers intriguing art exhibits and events to fill an afternoon.

Sports fans will appreciate Anaheim’s impressive stadiums. The Angel Stadium of Anaheim, opened in 1966 and the fourth-oldest MLB stadium in the country, is home to the Los Angeles Angels. History has been made here, including Mickey Mantle’s last game-winning home run and Reggie Jackson’s 500th career home run. There’s nothing quite as classically American as going out with the family, eating some hotdogs and watching a ball game – and it’s a regular pastime in Anaheim.

The Honda Center is a huge indoor arena, known for hosting the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League. It’s also one of the best places on the West Coast to catch a concert – it has attracted performers across genres, including Barbra Streisand, the Smashing Pumpkins, Janet Jackson, Brittney Spears and Anaheim locals No Doubt.

Looking to escape the hustle of the city? Head out to the Oak Canyon Nature Center to find hiking trails that wind through shady coastal oak groves and riparian habitats along a burbling stream.

Anaheim really has it all – plus the storage you need.
