Christmas on a Budget

It’s that time of the year again when the holidays are fast approaching. It’s stressful, chaotic and above all – wallet draining. So, what to do when you are on a budget? Or maybe you are trying to think of something to get for the person who has everything? Here are some great ideas for you, direct from me – Christy, your local self-storage-ologist. How about reusing something you already have? Come on over to your storage unit and take a minute to dig through. I’m sure you can find something in there you no longer need/want/have use for that can be re-purposed into something amazing to give. You can use some paint, glitter, fabric or other little pieces to combine into something incredible. Just make sure to have some fun with it! Or, maybe you could help someone learn a new skill! Are you a culinary whiz, master seamstress, athlete, or do you play an instrument? Maybe you could take some time to teach them something useful! Give some coaching/tutoring lessons for their kids, or show them how to make that holiday dish everyone loves when you make. (Please feel free to include me in those cooking lessons – I’m definitely NOT an ‘-ologist’ when it comes to that) Making gift baskets is always a fun and inexpensive gift as well! Go to your local dollar store and pick out some candies and fun knick-knacks – even throw in some handmade goodies like painted coffee cups or picture frames with a fun photo in it. I have done this many times and it always has a great reception.   cleaning supplies What about the gift of time? Why not offer to babysit so they can have a night out? Or maybe offer to pick up the lawn, clean their house or detail their car? With everything going on right now, I’m sure we could all use a break and that only costs you a few hours out of your day and could make a huge difference in theirs. Maybe you have a group of friends that you want to get something for, but don’t have the money for individual gifts? Take them out for some bowling or host a fun game night at your house and supply that holiday dish we talked about earlier! Getting the gift of a wonderful experience and great memories is always appreciated. Always keep in mind – this is a wonderful and magical time for many people and extremely stressful for others. The very best gift you can give this time of year is patience and kindness. -Christy Manager Storage West Baseline
