What is Summergrass?

Summergrass is a summertime bluegrass festival currently in its 17th year.

It debuted in the summer of 2003, but the idea for a bluegrass festival had been percolating for a while. The festival came to fruition thanks to the efforts of members of the San Diego Bluegrass Society and The North County Bluegrass and Folk Club.

The festival is held at the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum located in Vista.

The festival lasts three days and has become one of the premiere bluegrass festivals in the world. People come from all over to hear world-class bluegrass musicians. Some of the talents who have graced the Summergrass stage include:

For people who want to camp out, there are many options including; dry camping, RV electric hookups, and quiet camping spots (no generators.)

They’ll also get stage performance classes and appear on stage on the final day of the festival.

There are adult bluegrass classes as well, which take place before the festival. You can click here for more information. There will also be sessions with headliners The Grascals.

Finally, you can visit a host of food, drink, and crafts vendors at the festival. Food options will include an array of options such as shaved ice from Snowie California, barbecue, and more.

Some of the other vendors include:

  • Baubles by CJ
  • Guitars San Diego
  • Earth Girl Art
  • Pyke’s Pantry
